Last Term of The Year Review

Term 4....
Term 4 was probably my favourite term because obviously it's the last term and we have so much time out of the classroom which means less work and more games. And I am pretty sure its the shortest term of the year.

This term I have been put in the highest level and groups for everthing. It has been a real challenge and I hope all the stuff we have learnt helps me with all the tough learning next year. But this term we haven't done a lot of group work because we have done a lot of things out of the classroom.

Sport...
The main sport event this term was Athletics. The thing I did the best in was probably high jump. I don't know how high I jumped but I did the best I have ever done. We have just started learning how to play Ki o Rahi. Ki o Rahi is a traditional maori sports game.

This term we had the Kapa Haka Festival and I was in the second row of boys. At the start the girls were at the front because they do Poi first. In Utaina Mai the boys come to the front for the HAKA! There is no placings at the Kapa Haka Festival because it is not a competition.

Overall I really enjoyed Term 4 because we had heaps of time out of the classroom and did lots of fun activities outside and inside the classroom.

Kapa Haka Fest

As all of Nui walked onto the huge stage at 11:15 I felt sick in my stomach, I was so nervous to sing infront of like 150 people. The guitar started and the Kaea started singing. The first song we sung was Tu Mai Ra to form our triangle. We were eventually in the shape and went down. Now we were all singing our school song, Takahia with our fists. In that HUGE hall it sounded like you were the only one singing.

Now we were on to Utaina Mai which the boys come to the front in and the girls go to the back for the HAKA. I was super nervous because I'm pretty close to the front. And in second row you move to the side to get in a gap so EVERYONE could see me. Ok...
Now it was time for the Haka.

We went way to fast in the Haka but I knew that was going to happen.

Presentation To Council

About two weeks ago I went to the Gisborne Council with the Aurora Leaders 2019 to show a presentation of what we had done as leaders. We had fundrased for Banardos and Jammies for June and we raised just under $5,000!! When we found out what those two companies did it shocked us. At the leadership course there are a range of people from different schools from out into the hills and then all the way out to Wainui Beach School (which is my school). We all put together different fundrasing ideas, we did sausage sizzles at our schools, movie nights, we sold firewood and at my school we did a pajama day. There were a lot more things that schools did.

At the course we learned what leaders did to make the world better. We learned that anyone could be a leader you just got to set your mind to it. All the things we learned and did we took it to the council and did a presentaton. Everyone took part in it and said what we did. In the end I was really happy that I got picked for this AMAZING experience. My confidence has gone up a whole nother level when I speak infront of crowds and big audiences. This is a certificate that I got:

Fun At Te Poho-o-Rawiri Marae

Last week on Thursday and Friday Nui Syndicate went to Te Poho-o-Rawiri Marae. There was a powhiri to welcome us. The Tangata Whenua-Papa Albie, Aunty Buba and Aunty Charlotte-welcomed us onto the Marae. They taught us their Pepeha:
Ko Titirangi te maunga
Ko Turanganui te awa
Ko Horouta te waka
Ko Te Poho-o-Rawiri te marae
Ko Ngati Oneone te iwi

After the Powhiri we went out and had morning tea then went into our rotation activities. The first thing that my group did was learn moari patterns such as the koru and mania. Then we moved onto Honga with Koka Ngaire.
In the Honga you have a small cabbage tree trunk and you get a buddy then put it against each others forheads and you do all sorts of challenges with it. But then our group had to walk up kaiti hill....
It was quite tireing walking up but we made it. We had a small lunch brake after the kaiti hill walk then had a play. Then we had vegetarian nachos for dinner and they were Tu Meke!! Next we had to get our beds set up and then have some chill time.

A kapa haka presentation was what was next for the adults and
parents of what we had learnt so far:

In the morning we had to run up and down the court because people were wakeing up early and talking. We had a play after that and then had breakfast. After breakfast we packed up the wharenui to welcome the wai syndicate. While we were waiting Aunty Buba talk us a song called Muma Panda, it's about how the Nanis make the bread in the morning and at night for breakfast and dinner. We sang Haere Mai A Paoa when we welcomed wai. We went through all the rotations again and had another play. Overall it was really fun and I am SO happy we went!!

Go Hard! Or Go Home!

It was now my race. I was at the start line, waiting for the blocks to collide. BANG!
I was off. I sprinted hard at the start to get a good position at the start. Then Toby shouted "Jack you hit me in the nose". Toby got a blood nose from that but he kept running because he was determined to beat Ziggy. Toby was a lot closer to Ziggy because Ziggy was sick.

For the whole time me and Jack were neck and neck. Jack was ahead for most of it but at the end I gassed it past him and beat him. I don't know what I ended up coming. I think I was like 8th or something. Ziggy did end up beating Toby but he only just beat him at the end. So Ziggy ended up winning and Toby came 2nd, Rylan came 3rd but only just because Seve and him had a sprint race at the end. Through the whole race I was trying to stay close to Jack and then go faster at the end.

WE WON!!!!!!!!!!

Yep thats right our soccer team (Wainui Thunder) won the inteschool soccer for the first time in abou 4 years. In the finals it was 0 all at full time and it went into penalty shoot outs. I am the goalkeeper for our team but on Makauris first shot I almost saved because it hit my legs and bounced over them. Then it was our turn to shoot, Toby took that one and on his first shot he mist but then the reff let him take it again because she didn't blow the whistle, so then Toby took that shot and scored. It was now Makauris second shot. Which...they mist. Then Ziggy took his shot and mist. So Makauri took their last and......................MIST! So now it was all in gavins hands, the whistle blew, he shot and..............SCORED!!!!

Winter Soltice

This week for MLH quickwrites it was based on the winter solstice. One of them was a my map. We had to mark a pin on Stonehenge, Newgrange and Maeshowe. All of themm are prehistoric monuments that were built thousands of years ago.

Stonehenge is part of the Winter Solstice because when the shortest day of the year comes (which is called the winter solstice) it shines right in the middle of Stonehenge. Newgrange is famous for when the Winter Solstice comes the sun shines right down on the doorway. Maeshowe is famous for its amazing sun rise because it rise's right over the passage grave.

ANGLES AND TRIANGLES!!!!!

In maths strand this week we have been learning about the angles in a triangle and what types of triangle there are. We also learned that all the angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees.

There is equilateral triangle that has all the sides the same.

Then there is an isosceles triangle where the top is longer and the bottom of it is short.

And then there is a scalene which has no equal sides. The side on the left is short then the other two are longer.

Revisiting Term 2

Retro Tech, Harold and Matariki. Term 2 went so fast that I could barely remember going to the Harold Truck and the term. Going to The Museum of Technology was a really fun experience since I had never been there before. I didn't end up getting a term achiever but I was fine with that because I'm going for the end of year award.

ALLY FOR CLASS PRESIDENT!

In the book that we are reading (Fish in a Tree) this term there was a vote for who should be the class president. When they were in the class having a vote about who should run Jessica(Shays friend) voted for her and then Shay(the bully) voted for Ally for some reason. A while later they had a big vote for who would be class presedent. First there was 2 votes for Shay then 4 votes came out for Ally, then 3 more votes came out for Shay then 4 for Ally and she won.

Bullying

For one of my chapter chats this week I chose to do an anti bullying slogan/poster that will be put up around my school because at most schools bulling is a problem so you need to stand up to bullies.

My favourite Fiction Character

For one of our quick writes this week we did one on our favourite fiction. My favourite was THOR because he is(in my opinion) the strongest avenger because along with his superhuman strength he has the power to control the weather. I'm doing this because in the book we are reading in class right now the main charcter is Ally so we have to chose our favourite fiction character.

Escape From Kraznir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since the start of last term in my EL4 maths group we have been working on a story writing adventure called "Escape From Kraznir". Its about a small town called Slinsil that has rumours going around it that Kraznir a warlike place is going to attack Slinsil. So Slinsil sent a team of three brave , strong, smart and powerful people. Heres what I've written so far:

Chapter One:
The Dungeon
Bones crunched, sculls cracked, and chains rattled as Touchfire, Doughty and I made our way through the darkness of the dungeon tunnels walking light footed, but suddenly  ”AHHHHHHHH!” Touchfire screamed as bloodthirsty scorpions crawled up his legs,”What is it?’’ Doughty asked,”There’s something crawling up my legs, and there’s lots of them!” Touchfire screamed.  “How big are they?” I asked. Touchfire paused………”MASSIVE!” He screamed. ”Good!”. “Now, lets go and get this food”, I said.

(a short time later.)
”Crunch Munch! Munch! Munch!, MMmm-mmm that scorpion was delicious.” Doughty said.

“Right we are finally out of the dungeon” I said
“Shhhhhh”-, Touchfire whispered -“There’s a guard right there”, “Wait, don’t you have an invisible spell, Touchfire” Doughty said.
“Yes I do”, “UOMIOAW NUTHSTIONDERUO NAANI”, Touchfire whispered. Suddenly Touchfire was gone, “WHOA”, I said.
“Where are you”, I said.
Over here”, he whispered.
“Quickly go and take that guard out, before your spell runs out”, I explained.  RUN daaaanananananananananananananana!!
Suddenly the guard was gone and we were safe.

“Come on we’ve got to get this food!” I said.
“Remember, be quiet” Touchfire said,
“We can’t risk getting caught”he said nervously.
In a few minutes we were right outside the foodstore.
“Doughty, run up behind the guard and cover his mouth then take him out, but remember, be quick and quiet” I explained.
A moment later the guard was down and would be knocked out for a long time.
“The food’s just over here” Touchfire said,
“Coming” Me and Doughty said at the exact same time. We crawled over to the food and making sure we didn’t attract any unwanted attention.

As we made our way over Touchfire tripped over but luckily put a levitation spell on just in time. Once we got over to the food store we stocked up on as much food and drinks as we could.
It all fit into Touchfires never ending bag. But suddenly Doughty spotted a guard coming, “Quick over here” he whispered as Touchfire chucked his invisibility cloak over all of us and Doughty lead us out of the food store out into the middle of the hallway. Doughty lead us right outside where the guards slept, but he didn’t care, he just ran straight through and luckily didn’t get caught. Now we were right by all the lethal war weapons. We stocked up on as much as we could just like the food. Then we started on our great journey through the dark tunnel………..

Chapter 2
Escape

We’re about halfway through the tunnel and then we heard some strange noises coming from a little passage way. The noises started to get louder and louder. Then doughty saw something then shouted, “RUN” we ran and ran until we came to the end of the tunnel. We looked back and to our surprise they were gone. “Quick” I said-”we have to get out of here before we get caught by more guards”. We started heading down the sketchy, windy and cold path. Suddenly we started hearing some weird noises, “IT”S WARGS”, Touchfire shouted being the nerdy one. We all started running. The noises started get louder like they were right behind us. I looked back and sure enough, they were. Then I spotted some trees we could hide behind, “Quick, over here!!”, we all ran and hid behind a tree each. The wags ran straight past us which was a huge relief. We all waited for a little bit until we couldn’t hear a single peep from them. Then we all came out then continued our journey down. Once we got to the bottom we realised that there was a river to cross. We spotted a small boat in the distance and started running over.

Aurora Leadership Course

A few weeks ago on Tuesday, Hazel and I went on a leadership course with Aurora. The teachers that take this are Rebbeca Trafford and Matua Fergus. We have gone on a few courses before this and they were really fun and so was this one.

When we go there we learn how to be better leaders and every year they fundraise and this year we are fundraising for J4J(Jammies 4 June) and I think barnados. Jammies for june is a business that helps families that have no clothes or jammies. Barnados is a business that helps homeless kids that have no homes.

Sock Maths

For the past few weeks in EL4 Maths Strand with Koka Ngaire we have been working on sock maths. We have been learning which colour socks is more likely to get when you have, 2 blue and 3 red. This how I worked it out:

Sock Maths Screencastify.

🐶Long Division

Today I learnt how to do long division with Koka Ngiare. Once you get how to do it, it's actually pretty easy because you got the hang of it. Once I got how to do it I found it really easy. Here's some pictures of how I did it and how I worked it out.

2nd Overall YEAH!

3rd 3rd 2nd 1st. Today was the day of the Interschool Swimming Sports. I did really well in all the events and got in top 3 in ever race, I did 4 individual races and 2 relays. Our school came second out of all the schools in gisborne and so did I individually. I was really proud of myself. Last year(2018) I came second overall as well and the year before that I came 1st overall, that's the only year I've came 1st overall. Sadly I didn't get any photos.

CAMP KAITAWA!!!!!

Camp Kaitawa was the BEST!!! Everything we did was just AMAZING. Heres a reflection on what we did:

Digital Art

For about 3 weeks we have been working on our digital art. For our digital art we had to draw around the our photo using the polyline in Google Drawings. This is what the eye is like:
It looks really cool once you've completed it. I really enjoyed making this. It took a lot of time and effort but it was definitely worth it. Here's a picture of it when it is finished:

It was really fun and I hope you liked my post!

Fox St Hill Mountain Biking!

For the past few days me and hunte have been going up and down the Fox St mountain biking place and having loads of fun. We took some cool clips with my GoPro. On one of the berms(if you don't know what a berm is look down below) I went off it and lost a drink bottle. So basically I went of the berm and the handlebars went into my privates then I went over the handle and my drink bottle was gone. Here's a photo and a video:

Ko Hamanatua Te Awa

Hamanatua is our school Awa. We are the Kaitiaki of Hamanatua, which means we take care of it and look after it. We go here at least twice a term. This time when we went there we did weeding and moving the mulch around so it's in a ring around the plant. I was working down underneath the bridge with my pod Hunter, Ziggy and I, and there was another pod as well but I forgot their names. There were 2 other people, Jamai and Taj, they started helping us when we were up to about half way. We were down there from about 9:30 till 12:00 maybe. We had lots of fun and almost fell in the stream from trying to pull plants out.
